This semester, we’re also going to be focusing on completing a comic story in the view to eventually creating an anthology of the kids’ work!
Classes are targeted at 10- to 14-year-olds, but we do accept younger kids! (Contact us for details.)
Dates and payment info:
Classes will be Monday nights, 5:00pm – 6:30pm, and the course fee will be $199 (tax incl.) for 8 weeks of classes, as set out below:
Payment options include cash payment on the first day of classes or cheque made out to Megan Kearney. You can also pay by Visa, Mastercard or Debit, but a 3% service charge will apply.
You can bring your favourite pencils and art supplies with you, or you can buy a kit from Megan with everything you need, on the first day of classes. The approximate age range for this set of classes will be 10-13 years of age, but we do accept younger students who have the interest and focus to follow (and enjoy!) the class.

Koyama Press will celebrate National Cat Day by launching two new kids books at Little Island Comics!
Join us as we fête John Martz’s A Cat Named Tim & Britt Wilson’s Cat Dad, King of the Goblins. Undertake awesome activities! Meet cartoonists! Read about cats! Have tons of fun! Yippeeeeeeee!
From the Koyama Press site:
Miri and Luey have a dilemma. Their dad’s been turned into a cat and their closet is a garden full of goblins. There is only one thing for them to do — grab their friend Phil the frog and dive headfirst into a wild, woolly and wacky adventure.
Britt Wilson grew up in Brampton, Ontario. She attended both OCAD and Sheridan College, eventually graduating from Sheridan with a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Illustration. Wilson published her first book Britt Wilson’s Greatest Book on Earth, a collection of her mini-comics, with Conundrum Press in 2012. She now lives in Toronto, Ontario with her husband and white cat.
From the Koyama Press site:
In Tim’s world, a cat can paint on the ceiling and a happy pig couple can wait months for the bus. A duck and a mouse love to go flying, in a plane, of course. Every page is an adventure and each character is colorful in this collection of comics.
John Martz is a cartoonist and illustrator in Toronto, Canada. He is the creator of the wordless online comic strip Machine Gum, and the illustrator of several picture books including Abbott & Costello’s Who’s On First?(Quirk Books, 2013). His comics and illustrations have appeared in The Globe & Mail, MAD Magazine, Maisonneuve, and more. He won the 2013 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Story for his comic book Gold Star (Retrofit Comics, 2012).

Saturday, October 4th, 2014 – FREE To Attend!
12pm: Signing at Little Island Comics, 742 Bathurst Street
7PM: Party! at Pauper’s Pub, 539 Bloor St. W. 2F
This Saturday, you’re invited to celebrate the launch of DC Comics’ GOTHAM ACADEMY #1, the newest and most unique comic book series set in Batman’s Gotham City–and the whole creative team will be on board for the party! GOTHAM ACADEMY illustrator Karl Kerschl, and writers Brenden Fletcher and Becky Cloonan, will all be on hand to celebrate the launch of the new series with us here at The Beguiling!
First up, they’ll be doing a dedicated signing session at Little Island Comics from Noon to 2pm. The whole team will be signing Gotham Academy #1, as well as a great selection of their other books including Abominable Charles Christopher, Demo, and more! Bring your books to get signed!
Then that evening at 7PM, come out to a party at Pauper’s Pub to celebrate the release and give the whole team a warm Toronto welcome! A short presentation will start at 7:30 (so don’t be late!). Books will be available for sale (and signed too!) but this is also a great chance to meet the creative team, and mix-and-mingle with other Toronto comic fans! Drinks will be served, refreshments provided, and a fun time will be had by all!
We’ll see you this Saturday!
ABOUT GOTHAM ACADEMY #1: Gotham City’s most prestigious prep school is a very weird place. It’s got a spooky campus, oddball teachers, and rich benefactors always dropping by…like that weirdo Bruce Wayne. But nothing is as strange is the students!
Like, what’s up with Olive Silverlock? Is she crazy or what? Where did she go last summer? And what’s the deal with her creepy mom? And how come that Freshman MAPS is always following her around? And is she still going out with Kyle? P.S. Did you hear the rumor about the ghost in the North Hall?!
GOTHAM ACADEMY is a new, monthly teen drama set in the shadow of Batman and the craziness of Gotham City, with new characters and old plus a secret tie to Gotham’s past…

Little Island Comics is delighted to host the Canadian launch of Toronto cartoonist Eric Orchard’s first full-length graphic novel, Maddy Kettle: The Adventure of the Thimblewitch. Eric will be signing copies of his new book and doing a live drawing demonstration for kids at Little Island Comics on Saturday, September 20th. Original art from Maddy Kettle will be on display for your enjoyment.
From the Top Shelf website:
Eleven-year-old Maddy loved working in her parents’ bookstore… especially when joined by her pet flying toad Ralph. But that was before the mysterious Thimblewitch turned her mom & dad into kangaroo rats!
Now Maddy’s on the adventure of a lifetime. To save her parents, she’ll need to sneak past an army of spider-goblins, scarecrow warriors, and much more… Fortunately, an assortment of new friends await, including the cloud cartographers Harry and Silvio, a bear and raccoon who explore the world in their moon-balloon. They’ll help her along the way, but in the end, the fate of everyone will depend on Maddy’s courage, compassion, and creativity.
Full of surprises and stunning artwork, Maddy Kettle is a truly magical debut for Spectrum-Award-winning cartoonist Eric Orchard. Climb aboard and let your imagination soar!
